As all our homemade shampoo bars are sulphate-free they effectively remove surface oil, dirt & bacteria without stripping or drying your hair or scalp. They can also be used safely on sensitive skin without causing irritation and on dyed hair as they don’t penetrate & strip your hair.
As we live in a Gaeltacht area our labels are printed with both English and Irish text.
Our shampoo bars create a mild rich lather and can be used in both hard and soft water areas. We have created these bars using only ingredients derived from natural 100% biodegradable sources such as coconut oil, seaweed, argan oil, essential oils & various clays.
There are 6 varieties to choose from and each contains a different natural clay and essential oil. We do not use any mica colours as all our shampoo bars are naturally coloured by the different clays within them.
By using one of our shampoo bars you are helping to reduce plastic waste as each of our bars is equivalent to around 3 plastic bottles of liquid shampoo.

Our ingredients explained.
Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate (SCI):
Made from coconut oil.
A mild natural biodegradable surfactant. As an emulsifier it allows water and oil to mix and encourages dirt to attach itself to them making it easier for it to be washed away. It also creates a rich foaming lather, conditions, softens & helps reduce tangling and prevent frizz.
Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate (SLSa):
Made from coconut oil.
A mild natural biodegradable surfactant that creates a creamy rich lather. SLSa is also hydrophilic which means it is attracted to water which enables it to dissolve easily in water and rinse off quickly. Its large molecular size prevents it from penetrating the skin and so does not cause skin irritation.
Caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside:
Made from raw vegetable materials such as coconut oil.
A mild natural biodegradable surfactant that creates a rich lather to cleanse your skin. An emulsifier that allows essential oils and water to mix.
Iota Carrageenan:
Carrageenan is extracted from red seaweed (Chondrus crispus), which is commonly called Irish moss. Carrageenan is also a water-binding agent which means it helps hold water onto the skin and hair, increasing hydration and slip.
Argan Oil:
Oil obtained from pressing the kernels of the Argan tree. It’s rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Helps to hydrate & soften, increases hair elasticity & restores shine to dull hair.
Clays:
French Yellow Clay is made up of fine mineral particles and iron oxides which determine its colour. It contains iron, but no aluminium. It is a very mild clay that can be used on dry or sensitive skin. French Yellow Clay is considered to be a powerful detoxifier which draws out impurities from the body while the essential minerals within the clay are released. Clay anchors the essential oils allowing the scent to remain strong within the shampoo bar. Clay adds slip to the feel of your hair and gives a natural colour to the bar which does not fade.
Essential Oils:
Grapefruit essential oil has a fresh tangy citrusy scent. Grapefruit essential oil is particularly good for treating your hair. The natural antioxidants in the oil help to fight hair loss by clear your scalp of any free-radicals that can lead to cell damage. The oil helps to treat dryness or inflammation, which can cause dandruff. It keeps your hair moisturised & treats dandruff from the root cause.
Preservative:
Preservative K is a palm free preservative.
Water:
Distilled Water
pH: 5 to 6
Looking after your solid shampoo bar
Remember to leave your shampoo bar in a dry place & allow it to drain freely in order to prolong its life. We offer for sale a soap saver pad which will allow your shampoo bar to drain freely.
Environment
The average person uses 10 plastic shampoo bottles per year. Ireland is the top producer of plastic waste in Europe generating an average of 61kgs per person every year - almost double what the UK produces (Source: https://www.irishtimes.com/news/environment/plastic-how-much-do-we-generate-and-how-can-we-reduce-it-1.3469909). Annually over 1.4 billion plastic bottles of body wash are emptied and enter the garbage and recycling stream not including shampoo & conditioner bottles. Less than 10% ever gets recycled and it can take 450 years for a plastic bottle to decompose. (Source: https://www.reduce-plastic-waste.com/)
By choosing to use one of our shampoo bars instead of a liquid shampoo you are eliminating the need for around 3 plastic bottles and as a result helping to reduce plastic bottle consumption. We also do not use plastic micro beads in any of our cosmetics. Microbeads are manufactured solid plastic particles of less than one millimetre added as an ingredient to shampoos, conditioners, body washes, etc. They are a big environmental problem caused by the cosmetic industry who intentionally include these in their products which then enter the public waste water system and eventually enter the ocean and other waterways where they are ingested by fish and other sea creatures. All the ingredients within this bar are biodegradable. We believe in using minimum packaging with all our products and the thin cellophane shrink wrap packaging which protects this bar is biodegradable and compostable. The brown cardboard label is recyclable.
Safety Certified
As with all our cosmetic products, we have had all our shampoo bars safety assessed in an independent lab and we have obtained a Cosmetic Product Safety Report (certification) as required by Regulation 1223/2009 to sell legally in the EU & UK.
